Men's Basketball Shutdown at Home

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's men's basketball team (0–9, 0–2 MIAC) dropped a 90–54 decision to Gustavus Adolphus (6–1, 2–0 MIAC) on Saturday at David R. Thies Arena.

The Cardinals finished the afternoon with 16 assists and knocked down nine three-pointers despite the setback.

Saint Mary's got on the board early with a layup from Sawyer Markham off a feed from Reid Klug. Klug continued to attack the rim, completing a three-point play at 17:47 and adding another layup moments later, but the Cardinals couldn't slow down Gustavus' response.

The Gusties caught fire from deep hitting threes to flip the early momentum.

John Palmer provided a lift for Saint Mary's, burying back-to-back threes at 15:45 and 15:15, both set up by Klug, to briefly push the Cardinals back in front. However, Gustavus closed the half on a dominant 26–0 run, sending Saint Mary's into halftime trailing 48–21.

The Cardinals found better rhythm offensively in the second half. Klug sparked the scoring again with a layup and free throw at 15:06, and Reid Weckwerth added a three-pointer at 9:45 to keep the offense moving.

But the Gusties maintained control with strong defense and consistent scoring, keeping the lead out of reach as Saint Mary's fell 90–54 at the final horn.

Weckwerth led the Cardinals with 15 points, including four makes from beyond the arc, and added eight rebounds. Klug matched him with 15 points of his own, went a perfect 6-for-6 at the line, and recorded three blocks. Palmer chipped in nine points on three triples, while Markham added four points, three assists, and two rebounds.

The Cardinals look to turn this page and head into another conference matchup on the road, traveling to Hamline for a 7:00 p.m. tip off on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
